The IWAD Converter ------------------ The IWAD Converter is a utility designed for converting any supported 1.9 version of the DOOM, DOOM II, and Final DOOM (PLUTONIA and TNT) IWAD files into any of the other supported versions. The inspiration came from the old LADOPATO, Lazy DOOMers Patching Tool, which could convert between the available DOOM IWADs back at the time, and from the fact that in recent years many different new versions of the DOOM IWADs appeared with re-releases of the game on different platforms, for which a tool for easy comparison and conversion would be nice. Supported versions of the IWAD files are: - The original 1.9 DOS versions of DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD, TNT.WAD, and PLUTONIA.WAD - The id Anthology versions of TNT.WAD and PLUTONIA.WAD - The Xbox, XBLA, and all BFG Edition versions of DOOM.WAD and DOOM2.WAD - The Doom Classic Complete PSN versions of DOOM.WAD, DOOM2.WAD, TNT.WAD, and PLUTONIA.WAD So, if you have any IWAD file from a version mentioned in the above list, you can convert it to any other version with this utility. Files are identified and verified by their md5 checksum, so you can be sure that you get 100% original and valid files. To run the IWAD Converter simply start IWADConv.exe. No installation is required. Then choose your source IWAD file and select the version you wish to convert to, and click "Convert". That's it. The default setting is that the new file is created in the same folder as the input file with the version string appended to the source file name, but you can of course specify a different output file and/or folder if you want. (Note that the internal patcher bspatch.exe requires evelated privileges to execute, so when starting the program, Windows may ask you if you want the IWAD Converter to be able to make modifications to your computer. Click "Yes" to continue. If you run into problems, try right-clicking on IWADConv.exe and select "Run as administrator".) Choosing a valid source file or clicking on a version to convert to will display detailed information about the selected version in the lower part of the program window. You can scroll through the description and read exactly which lumps or entries were modified, deleted or added in the selected IWAD file, in comparison to another version (mostly the original DOS v1.9). The differences between the various IWAD versions are also listed in the next section of this file, in case you want to get an overview. One word about the file time stamps: Most of the newer game releases on other platforms (Xbox, PSN, but even the Steam version of the BFG Edition) have no time stamps stored for the WAD files. In these cases I created own stamps based on the official release date of the specified game version and coded the platform into the seconds of the time component: 00=PC, 20=Xbox, 30=PS3/PSN, 36=Xbox360/XBLA. For example, the date of DOOM2.WAD from the XBLA version will be set to 05/26/2010 (release date) and the time to 01:09:36 (1.09 is the game version, 36 means the platform is Xbox 360).
